Step 1 Preview-checking 1.Give Ss five minutes to preview this period and finish some exercises.walk around the class and give help if necessary. 2.check Ss’progress of previewing this part by checking the answers.
Step 2 Lead-in (Free-talk about special days) 1.Today we will learn some festivals in the world. Show a picture about National Day.“What day is it ?” Write National Day on the blackboard. Then show the date of Oct. 31 to the students and ask what day it is. (Halloween) 2.Ask “Do we celebrate Halloween inChina? How do people celebrate Halloween? Step 3 Presentation1. Ask “How do Eddie and Hobo celebrate Halloween.? ” Students listen to the comic and find out the answer. 2. the students listen and answer the questions. 3. Open the book and read after the tape, 4. Ask the students to act out the dialogue. Step 3 Learning1.Ask Can you say some Chinese festivals and western festivals?” ask them to say something about the festivals. 2.show the picture of Thanksgiving Day and ask; What day is it ? Can you guess? 3.Now let’s read a short passage about Thanksgiving Day .Then answer some questions. 3.Do you want to know how to celebrate Thanksgiving Day? Thanksgiving Day: eat turkey 4. Present the other four festivals in similar ways. Chinese New Year: eat dumplings lost of nice food, get some money enjoy fireworks Christmas: have a beautiful Christmas tree have lots of Christmas presents sing Christmas songs Dragon Boat Festival:have dragon boat races eat rice dumplings do sth to remember Qu Yuan Mid-autumn Festival:eat mooncakes get together tell the story of Chang’e
Step 4 Practice 1. Say: We know many festivals in the world. Look at the board and match the activities on the left with the festivals on th right. 2.Ask some questions and help them to answer. Which is your favourite festival? Why do you like it?…” 2. Go through part B on page 57. 3. Ask the students to make their dialogue. A: Which is your favourite festival? B: It’s _______________________________ A: Why do you like it? B: Because ____________________________ A: How do you celebrate it? B: We ________________________________
Step 5 Consilidation 1.complete the sentences with correcr words. 2.Do some exercises in the senior high school entrance examinations
Homework 1.Talk about your favourite festival 2. find out some information about Halloween.
